Audit Committees
are seeking deeper and broader assurance to substantiate the Governance statements required by the Board.
However we often find that the assurance providers do not work in a co-ordinated way to provide
a meaningful and integrated assurance statement to the Audit Committee.
Often the providers of assurance do not use a common focus
in order to understand their organisations and therefore fail to develop an integrated assurance model which provides
powerful and meaningful assurance. Silos exist and good practice is not shared or leveraged off in order to provide deeper
integrated assurance. This cannot be allowed to continue given the current economic climate and we are being asked more and
more to develop integrated assurance models which combine the work of compliance, Sarbox, etc to demonstrate tangible benefits
to businesses rather than being a "tick the box" exercise. Our approach has helped some of our clients to
refocus business models to realise their core objectives and add billions in shareholder value. We have proven time
and time again with our clients that an effective assurance process combined with risk management is a success assurance mechanism.
We
have worked extensively with private and public sector organisations to map the various assurance providers in order to identify
gaps in their:
· Planning and resource allocation
processes;
· Methodologies and tools;
·
Training and development of staff involved in the assurance process;
·
Reporting and follow up;
·
Provision of annual opinion or assurance statements.
We use proven tools and methodologies together with
a highly credible team to develop an integrated assurance model/process which meets the specific needs of the Audit Committee
and Board. We can also identify areas where there is cross over and translate this into savings or deeper
assurance depending on our clients assurance needs.
We
have produced a case study for developing an integrated assurance model and a summarised integrated assurance model is
set out below.
